CHAPTER 1 - SUPPLIED ART GUIDELINES
software versions • media • linked graphics • fonts • general layout
Software Versions
Layered Adobe Illustrator CS5 (or lower) files are the recommended format for all supplied art. We can also accept Adobe InDesign files, but please keep in mind that due to our output
device/software, a conversion to Illustrator CS will take place at the art stage. An increase to the art preparation charge may
reflect this conversion process and any difficulties that may occur.

Media
Here is a list of the media that we accept
- CD/DVD
- Zip Disk
- Electronic Transfer via Email OR FTP
Linked Graphics
External (linked) graphics should always be included. Avoid embedding these graphics whenever possible.
Graphics should be at least 300 dots per inch at 100% of their original scanned size. Any increases to the
dimensions of an external graphic in Illustrator will decrease resolution and therefore should be scanned
with this in mind.
Fonts
For all files built within the Macintosh OSX System software please include all fonts. For all files built on a PC please convert all fonts to paths/outline before supplying.
General Layout
- All artwork should be supplied with a complete color break and die line. If supplied on a disk, printouts of the files
should accompany a completed imagesetting form.
- All foreground elements should be .0625” from all die lines, .0468“ minimum.
- Backgrounds should bleed a consistent .0625” from all die lines.
- All positive print should be 100% of a spot color whenever possible.
- Reverse type knocked out of 2 or more colors should have an outline (holding rule) of .75 points added around
text to aid in registration and clarity.
- Gradients should be designed using 1% as the minimum dot/percentage held.
- All designs printing on clear or metallic substrates must indicate if white ink is to be used and where.
- If your using transparencies or effects in Illustrator, an explanation of the printing intention should be included. In most instances, transparencies and effects in Illustrator convert automatically to 4-color-process. If this is not your intention, then we as the printer will need to know.
